Supporting Mike Parsons’ 9Genders Vision Through Health Research
An Exciting Opportunity to Transform Healthcare
Imagine a world where every person—regardless of gender identity—feels seen, respected, and accurately represented in their own medical records. Right now, medical charting systems remain largely rooted in binary frameworks that leave many people invisible. We believe it’s time to change that.
We are thrilled to announce that we are building a research team to apply for the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) “Advancing 2S/LGBTQI+ Health Through Research” funding opportunity—a landmark initiative supporting community-engaged, high-impact research that addresses the health priorities of 2S/LGBTQI+ individuals and communities across Canada. https://cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/54462.html
At the heart of this project is Mike Parsons’ ancestral 9Genders teaching—a powerful framework that recognizes nine distinct gender identities, offering a far richer and more inclusive understanding of who we are as human beings. Mike’s vision calls us to move beyond limiting categories and honour the full spectrum of gender as understood by ancestral knowledge systems. We are honoured to support and continue building on this transformative work.
What We’re Working Toward
Our research will explore how medical charting and health information systems can be reimagined to be inclusive of all gender identities—drawing from the 9Genders framework and community wisdom to develop tools, measures, and practices that truly reflect the people they serve. This is about more than data fields on a form; it’s about dignity, safety, and better health outcomes for everyone.
This four-year research project will bring together researchers, community members, healthcare professionals, and knowledge keepers to co-design solutions that are grounded in lived experience and ancestral wisdom. We will work collaboratively to ensure that our findings translate into real-world changes—in clinical practice, in policy, and in the systems that shape how people receive care.
Join Our Team—We Want to Hear from You!
We are looking for passionate, committed individuals who want to be part of this journey. Whether you are a researcher, a healthcare professional, a community advocate, an Elder, a student, or someone with lived experience who cares about gender-inclusive health care—there is a place for you on this team.
If you are interested in joining, please reach out directly to Mike Parsons mrhpns@gmail.com to let him know. Mike is leading this vision, and your energy, expertise, and commitment would be a wonderful addition to our growing team.

Explore the 9Genders Community Learning Course
Want to learn more about the 9Genders framework before joining the research team? Last year, through DROKACADEMY, we designed and offered a free, community-focused 9Genders Community Learning Course based on Mike Parsons’ ancestral teachings. The course explored gender diversity beyond traditional binaries, examined masculinity, femininity, and non-binary dimensions of gender, and incorporated ancestral research methods and ceremony for a holistic, spiritually grounded learning experience.
We invite you to explore the course and its materials as a foundation for understanding the vision behind our upcoming research. Visit our DROKACADEMY blog to learn more about the course and access resources:
9Genders Community Learning Course – DROKACADEMY https://krasun.ca/2024/09/03/explore-the-ancestral-9genders-teaching-community-learning-course/
This course is an excellent entry point for anyone new to the 9Genders framework, and it reflects the community-centred, inclusive spirit that will guide our research going forward.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
Accessible medical charting is not just a technical issue—it is a matter of human rights, dignity, and health equity. By honouring ancestral knowledge and working hand-in-hand with communities, we have the power to reshape how health systems see and serve all people.
Reach out to Mike Parsons today if you’d like to join this team. Let’s build something meaningful together.
