•This introductory course is designed for anyone who wants to improve their Ukrainian language skills through their knowledge of the English language. The course uses a unique student-centred, independent study on/off the ground cohort learning approach developed by Dr. Oleksandr (Sasha) Kondrashov to promote life-long learning.
•This introductory course may be adapted to any learner as each learner will decide how much practice is needed to achieve their desired goal. The main purpose of the course is to improve conversational Ukrainian skills. In addition to the course’s main goal, students can choose what goals they want to develop during the course and let Dr. Kondrashov know how to support them in reaching their goals.
•The on/off the ground approach allows students to maximize speaking and interactive skills in a collaborative environment by completing weekly activities. It increases students’ engagement in the learning process, which is paramount for any learning success. •The course additionally provides students with an opportunity to develop their digital literacy and learner autonomy (self-directedness) skills. Therefore, by addressing students’ desires for more technology in the classroom, the pedagogical implications of this course go beyond language learning to inform general educational practices.
