The people of Prague found a brilliantly clever way to show solidarity with Ukraine and remind visitors of important history. When someone asks for directions to the Russian embassy, locals respond with genuine helpfulness – and unmistakable symbolism:
“Excuse me, could you tell me how to get to the Russian embassy?”
“With pleasure! Start at the Alexey Navalny Outlook, continue down Anna Politkovskaya Promenade, pass Heroes of Ukraine Street, and you’ll find it on Boris Nemtsov Plaza.”
By renaming the areas surrounding the Russian embassy after prominent opposition figures and heroes who stood against oppression, Prague created a permanent geographic reminder of values like democracy and freedom. The embassy simply cannot be reached without passing through spaces honoring those who fought for justice.
It’s a masterclass in peaceful protest – ensuring that every visitor, diplomat, and embassy staff member receives a subtle but powerful history lesson with every set of directions they request. No angry confrontations needed – just clever urban planning that speaks volumes.
