In February, during our first Educating for Tomorrow conference, Dr. Juliana West and I made a decision to share a local story that continues to inspire: the Kamloops Stand with Ukraine movement. What began as an act of defiance just two days after Russia’s full-scale invasion has grown into a sustained expression of global solidarity, right here in our own community.
Dr. West has designed the presentation and beautifully captured this journey in a powerful video now available to all:
📺 “KAMLOOPS STANDS WITH UKRAINE: 154 SATURDAYS OF STANDING IN SOLIDARITY”

Thank you, Juliana, for sharing your design talents, your compassionate vision, and for documenting these weekly rallies with such care. This video honours every voice, every flag, every footstep that gathered at Kamloops City Hall—week after week, month after month.
🌻 Why This Story Matters
From chants of “Slava Ukraini! Heroyam Slava!” to heartfelt speeches, the Kamloops Stand with Ukraine community has stood firm—154 Saturdays and counting. What makes this story remarkable is not just its duration, but its unity: a diverse group of about fifteen core members—Ukrainian diaspora and non-Ukrainian allies—gathering with purpose, hope, and resilience.
Kamloops is one of the few non-Ukrainian cities globally where weekly Stand with Ukraine rallies have continued without pause. Our aim is to keep Ukraine’s ongoing struggle for freedom, sovereignty, and justice visible—locally and globally.
🕊️ In a time when the world may feel overwhelmed or unsure how to help, this movement reminds us: a little bit, every day, can lead to enduring impact.
