Reviewer Guidelines

Before Accepting a Review

  • Check fit: Ensure the submission aligns with your expertise
  • Consider capacity: Can you complete the review within 4-8 weeks?
  • Identify conflicts: Declare any potential conflicts of interest
  • Assess anonymous review: Confirm you can maintain anonymity if the author’s identity becomes apparent

Conflict of Interest Guidelines

Decline to review if you:

  • Have collaborated with the author(s) in the past 3 years
  • Are from the same institution as the author(s)
  • Have financial interests related to the research
  • Have strong personal or professional relationships with the author(s)
  • Cannot provide an objective assessment

Recommendation

  • Accept as is: Rare, for exceptional submissions requiring no changes
  • Minor revisions: Small improvements needed, re-review by editor
  • Major revisions: Significant improvements required, second round of peer review
  • Reject with encouragement to resubmit: Substantial reconceptualization needed
  • Reject: Does not meet journal standards or scope
