Dear friends,

One year ago today, the independent nation of Ukraine, my birthplace, was invaded by military forces from the russian federation from nine different directions. This attack was part of a war that began in 2014 when russia annexed Crimea and invaded and occupied parts of eastern Ukraine.

Despite the ongoing attacks, Ukraine has remained resilient: unbreakable: Nezlamna! Three hundred sixty-five days the world stands with Ukraine. However, the country continues to be targeted by russian missile strikes aimed at civilians, the Indigenous People of Ukraine. The air attacks occur daily. As a result, up to ten regions of Ukraine a day are impacted, and multiple people lose their lives daily. One of them is my God Mama’s grandson, who defended the land and was killed by putin’s regime in June 2022. Mama of my very good friend from Calgary could not stay in Bahmut and passed away on the land that offered safety far from her home, her neighbours, and her community. Millions of families are going through grief and loss. Some share stories, and most cope in silence. Let’s take a minute of silence to remember the heroes of Ukraine who are now our ancestors and support us from the spiritual world. Residents in border regions face daily shelling and artillery attacks, while those living under russian occupation are subject to imprisonment, rape, torture, and murder.

The humanitarian impact of the conflict has been devastating. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian citizens, including children, have been illegally deported to Russia. Over 200,000 hectares of land have been contaminated by land mines and unexploded devices, posing a significant threat to public safety. Civilian infrastructure, including educational institutions, medical facilities, cultural and religious sites, shopping centers, residential buildings, and transportation networks, has been destroyed across Ukraine.

The safety of the world is in danger. Terrorists are watching, and they cannot win. Humanity needs to win. We need to stand with Ukraine for our future, for the future of Indigenous People around the world, for a world without the threat of violence, nuclear and other human-made disasters, and for our children, and grandchildren who do not need to end their life defending their lands. Bullies and terrorists do not care about people. They only care about themselves and their need of power and control. Therefore, we need to stay stronger and act precisely to end the russian and global terror.  

Today, we honour the millions of Ukrainians who have suffered and the thousands who have lost their lives in this ongoing war. Vichna Pamyat’ Thank you / Dyakuju to all who stand with Ukraine.

Сьогодні рік тому на незалежну державу Україну, моє місце народження, вторглися військові сили російської федерації з дев’яти різних напрямків. Ця атака була частиною війни, яка почалася в 2014 році, коли росія анексувала Крим і вторглася та окупувала частини східної України.

Незважаючи на триваючі атаки, Україна залишається стійкою: незламною: Незламна!. 365 днів світ стоїть з Україною. Проте країна продовжує бути об’єктом російських ракетних ударів по мирному населенню, корінному народові України. Атаки з повітря відбуваються щодня. Внаслідок цього щодня страждає до десяти регіонів України, щодня гинуть люди. Один із них — онук моєї хресної мами, який захищав землю і був убитий режимом Путіна в червні 2022 року. Мама мого дуже хорошого друга з Калгарі не змогла залишитися в Бахмуті та померла на землі, яка забезпечувала безпеку далеко від її дому, її сусідів, її громади. Мільйони сімей переживають горе і втрати. Деякі діляться історіями, більшість справляються мовчки. Хвилиною мовчання вшануємо героїв України, які нині є нашими предками і підтримують нас з духовного світу. Мешканці прикордонних регіонів щодня стикаються з обстрілами та артилерійськими атаками, а ті, хто живе під російською окупацією, піддаються ув’язненню, зґвалтуванням, тортурам і вбивствам.

Гуманітарні наслідки конфлікту були руйнівними. Сотні тисяч громадян України, включно з дітьми, незаконно депортовані до Росії. Понад 200 000 гектарів землі забруднено мінами та нерозірваними пристроями, що становить значну загрозу громадській безпеці. По всій Україні зруйновано цивільну інфраструктуру, зокрема навчальні заклади, медичні установи, культурні та релігійні об’єкти, торгові центри, житлові будинки та транспортні мережі.

Безпека світу під загрозою. Терористи спостерігають і не можуть перемогти. Людство має перемогти. Ми маємо стояти разом з Україною за наше майбутнє, за майбутнє корінних народів у всьому світі, за світ без загрози насильства, ядерної та інших техногенних катастроф, за наших дітей, онуків, яким не потрібно закінчувати своє життя, захищаючи свою землю.  Терористи не дбають про людей, вони дбають лише про себе. Ми повинні залишатися сильнішими і діяти чітко, щоб покласти край російському та світовому терору.

Сьогодні ми згадуємо та вшановуємо мільйони українців, які постраждали, і тисячі, які втратили життя в цій війні. Vichna Pamyat’ Дякую / Dyakuju всім, хто стоїть з Україною.
