This Sunday we’re standing right on the 50th parallel—the invisible latitude line that ties our communities to each other and to Ukraine. It’s a perfect way to “draw a circle” that connects Campbell River to Winnipeg and reaches across the ocean to Lviv and cities across Ukraine. And yes—Campbell River even has a 50th Parallel marker. What an opportunity to turn geography into solidarity.
Join the Human Chain for Ukraine — Campbell River & Comox Valley
When: Sunday, August 24 at 7:00 p.m.
Where: 50th Parallel Mark(er) (Campbell River area)
On Ukraine’s Independence Day, Ukrainians around the world—and everyone who supports a free Ukraine—will step onto central streets and join hands to form living chains of unity. Together we’ll feel our Strength, renew our Spirit and Faith in victory, and thank Canada for standing with Ukraine.
50th-Parallel Fun Facts (why this spot matters!)
- The 50°N line runs across both Canada and Ukraine—a natural bridge of latitude between our homes.
- It passes near Winnipeg and just north of Lviv, and it runs right by Campbell River—where a local 50th Parallel marker celebrates it.
- In Ukraine, the 50th parallel touches or passes close to several communities (including Kharkiv region, Lubny and Andrushivka), reminding us that our stand here aligns—literally—with people there.
- Standing on the 50th is a simple, powerful way to say: our lines of care and courage are straight, shared, and unbroken.
