Morning in the Poppy Garden

I stepped into my front yard as the morning sun painted everything gold. My poppy garden was alive with colour—brilliant reds and soft pinks swaying gently in the warm breeze. But what drew me in wasn’t just the sight of the blooms; it was the gentle, constant humming that filled the air.

Bees. Everywhere.

I found my usual spot at the garden’s edge and settled in to watch. The moment I stood still, something wonderful happened. The bees seemed to acknowledge my presence without alarm. They simply adjusted their flight paths around me, creating an invisible bubble of space that let me stay close while they continued their important work.

It was like being invited into their world.

A honeybee landed on a large pink poppy just inches from where I stand. She dove deep into the flower, her legs kicking slightly as she worked. When she emerged, covered head to toe in creamy pollen, she paused for just a moment on the petal’s edge—almost as if giving me a better look—before buzzing off to her next destination.

The teamwork was mesmerizing. Three bees worked a single large bloom, each claiming their own section, never getting in each other’s way. Another group moved systematically from flower to flower, like they’d mapped out the most efficient route through my garden. There was no rushing, no competition—just this beautiful, coordinated dance of purpose.

The sun climbed higher, warming my face and illuminating the scene like a natural spotlight. The poppies seemed to glow from within, their papery petals catching and holding the light. Pink flowers looked like sunset clouds, and red ones like drops of ruby wine.

And through it all, that wonderful humming continued—not loud or overwhelming, but constant and comforting. It was the sound of contentment, of work being done well, of life flourishing right here in my own front yard.

I lost track of time watching this colorful joy unfold around me. The bees kept working, the sun kept shining, and the poppies kept swaying in their gentle dance. I felt like I’d been given a front-row seat to one of nature’s most perfect performances, where every player knew their part and played it beautifully.

When I finally stood to go inside, the bees continued their work as if I’d never been there at all. But I carried the image with me and video too that I share on Facebook (only photo in this blog post)—that burst of color, that peaceful cooperation, that generous sharing of space and beauty. My morning in the poppy garden had become exactly what I needed: pure, colorful joy.
