Carols and Seasons: Songs of the Ukrainian Year

The Ukrainian year is sung: carols at Christmas, shchedrivky at the New Year, carols with new words in wartime, vesnianky and hayivky to call the spring, and kolyskovi (колискові, lullabies) at the cradle all year round.

Winter: carols

Spring: vesnianky and hayivky

All year: the cradle

Calling Spring and Calling Sleep are companions to Healing the Roots, the CARE+ Anchor volume. Every song has its story, words to learn and links to listen and read. Folk songs are printed in full; songs still under copyright are described, not reproduced. Each book has a Sing Along page with playlist QR codes.

Review copies, updates and corrections

Teachers, Ukrainian Saturday schools, choirs, libraries and community groups can request a free review copy of any book by writing to sasha@drokacademy.ca, and every student in a course that adopts a book receives it free. Readers who buy a book receive every revised First Edition free. If your family sings a carol or a lullaby differently, please write: the next editions will carry it, with your name if you wish.
