Kamloops City Hall, where residents have stood with Ukraine every Saturday since February 2022, and where our new council will serve.
Yesterday, Kamloops chose its mayor, city council and school trustees. Mama and I voted by mail ballot, and in the afternoon I stood near City Hall for our 243rd Saturday, as we have every week since February 2022.
Congratulations to those elected (preliminary results; official results will be declared by the City):
- Mayor: Mike O’Reilly
- City Council: Rob Bertrand, Jesse Ritcey, Katie Neustaeter, Steve Bucher, Christopher Mitra, Margot Middleton, Kelly Hall and Randy Sunderman
- School Trustees (SD73): Cole Hickson, Heather Grieve, John O’Fee, Troylana Manson and Kathleen Karpuk
Thank you to all 51 candidates. Running for office takes courage, time and care, and Kamloops is stronger because so many people offered to serve. A special thank-you to the sixteen candidates who answered our six questions about Kamloops and about standing with Ukraine. Their answers, unedited and unranked, remain on the record:

Thank you also to the City of Kamloops election team and the many volunteers who made voting possible, and to every resident who voted.
What comes next. As we promised every candidate, our community will offer to meet with the new mayor, council and school board, so Kamloops continues to care for every resident and to stand with Ukraine. Everyone is welcome to join us any Saturday at 3:00 PM near City Hall.
One more vote this week. The provincial election is Saturday, October 24, with advance voting until Wednesday, October 21. We have sent the same six questions to all Kamloops candidates for MLA, and their answers will be published here on Wednesday, October 21.
Diakuiu (thank you, from the heart), Kamloops.
