We Voted Together. Now It’s Your Turn, Kamloops: Polls Close at 8 PM

2–3 minutes
Sasha (Dr. Oleksandr Kondrashov) smiles in a selfie outside Kamloops City Hall, holding two orange mail ballot return envelopes.

This year Mama and I voted by mail ballot. We sat together and I read every candidate’s answers to Mama, all sixteen of them. We looked at the candidates’ profiles and photos, talked them through, made our decisions and voted. Then we took our envelopes to City Hall.

A mail ballot made it possible for us to take our time, read in our own home and decide together. Voting is one more way of showing up for our city, just as we show up near City Hall every Saturday.

Today, Saturday, October 17, is general voting day in Kamloops. If you are eligible and haven’t voted yet, please make it part of your day before 8:00 PM.

Who can vote
You can vote if you are:

  • 18 or older
  • a Canadian citizen
  • living in BC for at least six months
  • living in Kamloops, or owning property here

You do not need to be registered in advance, and renters can vote too.

How to vote today

  • When: 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, at any of 16 voting places. Addresses, accessibility details and bus routes are at Maps.Kamloops.ca/Election2026.
  • Bring: two pieces of ID. At least one must show your signature and at least one must show your address.
  • Help is available: ballot marking help, curbside voting and Braille overlays. Just ask an election official.
  • On your ballot: 1 Mayor, up to 8 Councillors and up to 5 School Trustees.
  • Still holding a mail ballot? It must reach the City’s Chief Election Officer by 8:00 PM today, so please don’t put it in the mail now. We returned ours at City Hall, 7 Victoria Street West. For today’s drop-off options, check kamloops.ca or call 250-828-3311.

Read the candidates’ own words
Sixteen candidates answered six questions about Kamloops and about standing with Ukraine.

🇺🇦 Now in Ukrainian too. The Ukrainian bilingual edition is for the families who have made Kamloops their home since 2022. It keeps every candidate’s answer in English, with a Ukrainian translation under it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TrPyvX7O82LyD9_Ovj6_YbWT4HIKl8A4/view?usp=sharing

It was prepared quickly for voting day, so there may be some errors in translation. If you notice one, please let me know at sasha@drokacademy.ca and I will update it.

The provincial election is a separate vote on Saturday, October 24.

Whoever is elected, our community will offer to meet with them and keep working together. See you at 3:00 PM near City Hall.
