The Last Tomato Check-In of 2025

Yesterday, Mama, Larysa, and I stood together in our Westsyde garden for what has become our annual ritual—the final tomato check-in of the year. Branch by branch, we carefully examined what remained, deciding what could ripen on the vine and what would make the journey indoors to continue its transformation from green to red on our table over the coming months.

This year’s crop has been extraordinary. Abundant. Generous beyond measure.

For the past few months, my morning routine has included stepping outside to find the ripest tomato of the day—warm from the sun, picked at peak perfection. Now, that ritual moves indoors. The tomatoes will continue their patient ripening on our table, and we anticipate they’ll sustain us well into late November, maybe beyond.

If you’re curious about the magic of watching green become red, or if you simply want to taste what I can only describe as the most delicious tomatoes we’ve grown—stop by our house in Westsyde. The tomatoes are on the table. Take what calls to you. Share in this season’s abundance.

I cannot adequately describe how delicious they are. You’ll just have to taste for yourself.

Thank you to the land—here in Secwepemcúl’ecw—for continuing to give, for allowing us to tend and harvest, for teaching us about patience, cycles, and the gift of nourishment. Thank you for reminding us that abundance shared is abundance multiplied.

The tomato season of 2025 has been a blessing. May we carry its sweetness with us through the winter ahead.

Happy Thanksgiving. May your tables be full and your harvests abundant.
