I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has reached out on Facebook and to the incredible people of Kamloops who continue to show up at our weekly peaceful gatherings to support Ukraine. This Saturday was extra special, and I am thankful to have witnessed such an outpour of love from the people of Kamloops who stand with Ukraine. Your solidarity means more than words can express during these challenging times for the People of Ukraine.
Your support joins the millions of voices around the world standing with Ukraine. While the recent meeting between President Trump and President Zelensky has left many of us troubled, your commitment reminds us that people everywhere still believe in freedom, sovereignty, and human dignity.
Many Americans and others worldwide are now revisiting history, particularly the Budapest Memorandum, where the US and other powers signed to guarantee Ukraine’s security in exchange for giving up nuclear weapons. As these commitments seem to be overlooked and new deals are demanded without security guarantees, your continued support helps us maintain hope.
The hostility displayed toward Ukraine and its legitimate security concerns has been deeply disappointing. What we’ve witnessed isn’t about making America great again, but rather appears to be:
Emboldening aggressors at the expense of democratic allies
Prioritizing short-term political wins over long-term international security
Sending a dangerous message to authoritarian leaders worldwide that force can triumph over international law
Despite these challenges, the response from communities like Kamloops and supporters worldwide gives us strength. You remind us that the values of freedom, democracy, and human dignity transcend politics and borders.
Thank you for standing with Ukraine. Your support makes a difference every single day, and the people of Ukraine will not forget it.
In solidarity and with profound gratitude!
With respect
Sasha
