Watching the US Election from North of the Border

As close neighbours and friends, Canadians are deeply invested in today’s US election. Our recent national poll shows how much this matters to us:

70% of Canadians are closely following this historic election, and it’s easy to understand why. What happens in the US deeply affects our shared economy, environment, and security.

The poll numbers paint a clear picture: 64% of Canadians would support Harris if we could vote, with strong backing across all regions. We see Harris as the stronger candidate on issues that matter to our relationship – from trade to climate change to our shared border security.

But there’s also concern here in Canada. 65% of us worry about potential election-related unrest. As your closest neighbour and ally, we’ve always valued our peaceful, productive relationship – regardless of who sits in the White House.

To our American friends heading to the polls today: Know that your northern neighbours are watching with genuine care and hope for a peaceful democratic process. Our friendship and partnership have weathered many elections, and will continue long after today’s votes are counted.

Here’s to democracy and the enduring Canada-US relationship! 🇨🇦🤝🇺🇸
