A Special Way to Support Ukrainian Culture – Through Music, Memory, and Community Connection

I just learned about an incredible cultural event through Dr. Tetyana Semigina, one of Ukraine’s leading social work researchers and educators. She shared a touching personal connection – the featured artist, Anastasiia, was her former social work student who has now blossomed into a remarkable musician and cultural activist.

This Sunday (Oct 27) at the historic Shevchenkivskiy Hai in Lviv, Anastasiia will present a unique concert-meeting that beautifully bridges social work, music, and collective memory. The centerpiece will be her video premiere “Soon I’ll Return” (Скоро я повернусь), featuring the words of Victoria Amelina. This powerful piece weaves together 22 stories of Ukrainian displacement – connecting current wartime experiences with historical WWII narratives that have often remained unspoken in Ukrainian families across generations.

I was moved to action and just purchased three “suspended tickets” (підвішені квитки) from Canada. These tickets will allow locals in Lviv to attend even if I can’t be there personally. Each ticket is just 350 UAH (approximately $13 CAD) – a small investment in keeping Ukrainian culture vibrant during these challenging times.
