Dr. Oleksandr Kondrashov, recipient of the recent Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship award, will guide a TRU student based in Williams Lake this February to document inspirational stories of Northern British Columbians’ grassroots efforts standing with Ukraine. Organizing fundraisers, advocacy campaigns, cultural events and donation drives, ordinary people in Northern towns are supporting Ukraine in its time of crisis. By compiling these community-driven solidarity efforts, Dr. Kondrashov’s apprentice will chronicle small acts of kindness that uplift our shared humanity.
Mentoring emerging social work scholars for over 18 years, Dr. Kondrashov is empowering students themselves to recognize how positive change often starts small – then spreads through communities to comfort those suffering overseas. This hands-on research enables students to illuminate the power of grassroots activism while developing invaluable documentation skills.
Dr. Kondrashov’s dedication demonstrates the immense value of experiential learning under caring supervision. His projects underscore how local actions can resonate globally, as social workers mobilize compassion to reach faraway regions. By entrusting students to document Northern BC’s stand with Ukraine, he helps forge a new generation of critically-thinking researchers making a tangible difference.
The call is clear: more students should join Dr. Kondrashov’s impactful mission of chronicling grassroots support worldwide. Through research guided by his extensive experience, emerging scholars can recognize their own power to spread ripples of hope.
