In Loving Memory of Borys Chubin: A Ukrainian Inventor and Hero
Today, I want to share about the person whom I never met but once I read about his death on Facebook I wanted to do more research to remember and honour a remarkable soul, a true Ukrainian hero whose life was dedicated to making the world a better place. Borys Chubin, a human being of incredible talent, boundless patriotism, and unwavering compassion, has left us, leaving a void that can never be filled. He didn’t just live; he thrived, making an indelible mark on the lives he touched and the nation he loved. In one of the interviews I watch how he spoke in 2015 on importance of supporting Ukraine. He choose not to go to Germany to study but to stay in Ukraine and continue sharing his inventions to support Ukrainian army.
Borys Chubin was not just an inventor; he was a champion of social innovation. With a heart full of love for Ukraine, he could have excelled in any field, but he chose to stand up for the very essence of Ukraine, fighting for its right to exist. In a world where many talk about change, Borys Chubin was a change Ukraine need…..
One of his most significant inventions, iHelp, was a beacon of hope for the visually impaired. This remarkable device empowered people with limited physical abilities to navigate the city with ease. Borys Chubin didn’t stop there. He envisioned a world where even gardening could be accessible to all. Thus, he created the Garden Club smartphone application, a digital green thumb that guided gardeners on when to plant various crops, nurturing both plants and passion.
But perhaps, one of his most profound contributions was the social network designed specifically for people with visual impairments. In a world where connections are often forged through visual media, he gave those with sight limitations the gift of communication. Through his innovation, generations of people found a platform to share, connect, and uplift one another.
His unrelenting commitment to equality and inclusivity bore fruit when his project, “Creation of Equal Opportunities for the Blind and Visually Impaired,” earned the highest acclaim from an international jury. His vision was not only to invent but also to bridge the gap, creating opportunities where others saw limitations.
On August 22, just days before he became a hero in the truest sense, Borys Chubin was celebrated with an award. His mother, Tetyana, proudly shared a photo of that moment. Little did they know that poignant lines would soon accompany it: “My son… My hope… My pride… On the SHIELD…”
Borys Chubin joined the 59th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Yakov Handziuk, taking up arms to defend his beloved Ukraine. It was there, on August 30, 2023, while courageously executing a combat mission near Avdiivka, that he gave his last measure for his nation. In his last interview, one hour before his death he spoke in Ukrainian (all other interviews were in russian) about the challenges of war and how hard is to see someone you know passes away.
Today, as we remember Borys Chubin, we also pay tribute to countless heroes like him who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of Ukraine’s freedom. Every morning at 9 a.m. in Ukraine, a national minute of silence falls upon the land, a moment to remember and honor those who have lost their lives due to the armed aggression of the russian federation.
Borys Chubin’s light may have dimmed in this world, but his legacy will forever shine as a reminder of hope, innovation, and patriotism. Heroes like him never die; they live on in the hearts and minds of those they have touched.
Eternal memory, Borys Chubin.
Here is all the interviews I researched to learn about Borys and his unique gifts that he kept sharing in Ukraine until his very early death defending Ukraine. I took few screenshots to share some of the Borys pictures. At his current age (24) he had so much to keep sharing with the world. Vichnaya Pamyat’
