Today is an anniversary of my Grandpa death. I remember that day as yesterday. We were preparing for Ukraine’s Constitution Day celebration and Grandpa Peter came from Ratusha (he took care of the main clock in Lviv) and was planning to buy some cherries from the market. Unfortunately he did not wake up the following day, sudden death from heart attack. Every time I visit Lviv I come to Rynok (market) Square where grandpa was working and listen to the Ratusha clock sound. Recently as I haven’t been in Lviv since 2019 I bought grandfather clock in Kamloops that reminds me of Grandpa. When I visited Halifax few weeks ago I was walking near the ocean and noticed a tower, that somehow I never visited in the past (I lived in Halifax for few years). I came closer and was pleasantly surprised to see two lions (symbols of Lviv) near the entrance to the tower. I came even closer and realize that the tower is open to the public and everyone can climb to the top. I was beyond happy. I run fast, remembering 350 steps my Grandpa did every 1.5 days to keep the clock running and although there is no clock on Halifax Memorial tower I was looking on clock tower from Dalhousie University and remember Grandpa. As I was coming down I saw the plaque “From Ireland” which was also very symbolic as Grandpa’s son (my uncle) is now in Dublin. I keep walking and enjoy the ocean breathe, thinking how wonderful that I found memories of Lviv in Halifax.

Today I will pick up some nanking cherries and we will remember Grandpa in Kamloops and on Saturday we will go to Vernon to pick up more local cherries at Peter’s Orchard in memory of GrandPa Peter. Eternal memory / Vichnaya Pamyat’
