Chinese Canada

Zhu, J. Kondrashov, O. Su, J. 2021

The Chinese Canada project has been supported by Mitacs through Globalink Internship to strengthen Community
Connections between Canada and China : Asset map project.

Asset mapping is a tool widely used in community development to promote sustainability and find new ways to connect people. The tool helps communities to identify their individual, associational, institutional, economic, physical, and cultural assets. The project has a long term goal to locate all places within Canada that can be linked to Chinese-Canadian community and create an asset map and reference list on China Canada that allows to build future
collaboration among both countries and strengthen the research potential in social work areas of practice. The Chinese Canada asset map will help Chinese newcomers in Canada to find appropriate resources as well as to promote Chinese organizations in Canada and create possible collaboration projects in the future with Schools of Social Work in China.

Jiawen (Amy) Zhu created a list of organizations under the supervision of Dr. Oleksandr Kondrashov. Jessica Su offered support to Amy and facilitated supervision meetings between Dr. Kondrashov and Jiawen Zhu. The list of organizations and references will be constantly updated here. The next steps of the project can include the creation of Chinese Canadian Studies courses similar to Dr. Kondrashov’s Ukrainian-Diaspora work. Thank you Amy and Jessica for all your contributions to the project. I hope one day Amy will be able to visit Canada and connect with Canadian-Chinese organizations she was researching during the internship.
